Overview

There are a selection of introductory skills activities that you can take part in during the first few weeks of term. You can sign-up for our Getting Started hands-on workshops and Library Essentials sessions via the 'activities' tab if you are coming onto campus, or you can explore our interactive e-learning materials (KLaSS) and Library Guides if you are off campus.

Hands-on workshops (until 5th October)

Getting Started with your Studies

In a Getting Started with your Studies hands-on workshop, one of our Learning and Skills Managers will introduce you to the wide range of tools available to you.

This session will help your carry out the key activities you will need to do to find materials for your course. Topics are likely to include:

  • e-learning and Library Guides,
  • finding items on your reading lists,
  • accessing online resources,
  • visiting other libraries,
  • using your printing account.

This class lasts 1 hour and is held in a computer room so that you can have hands-on experience of our online resources.

Getting Started with IT

In a Getting Started with IT hands-on workshop one of our Learning and Skills Managers will introduce you to the IT systems available to you.

This session will help you become familiar with essential IT systems at King's and where to go for further training and support. Topics are likely to include:

  • Using guidance and support from King's IT to get started  e.g. accessing your university email; connecting your devices; using Office 365: saving your work and getting technical support,
  • Making the most of the online learning environment KEATS,
  • Using computers in the Library, including a brief tour of Windows 8,
  • Finding out about face-to-face and online IT training,
  • Finding out about online and face-to-face study support,

This class lasts 1 hour and is held in a computer room so that you can have hands-on experience.

How do I book onto one of these activities?

Select the 'activities' tab for the site you would like to visit and then a time slot on the calendar that appears. You just need an email address and your name to book.

Library essentials (from 2nd October)

In a Library Essentials session, a member of Library Staff will show you around the Library.

You will discover how to carry out a range of essential library activities to help get the most out of your studies, such as:

  • finding the locations of books and other resources,
  • using the self service machines,
  • choosing a study zone,
  • how to get help and support.

Library Essentials will last approximately 20 minutes.

Interactive KLaSS e-learning

A range of interactive activities to help students enhance their skills are available through our KLaSS e-learning. It's self-enrol and can be accessed 24/7 from on or off campus.

Campus tours
