The AI Ambassador Network is a forum for healthcare professionals and those interested in AI in healthcare to learn about and share practical applications of AI. This network will support learning, capability building and delivery of AI across health and care systems, whilst encouraging safe, inclusive spaces for members to be involved and influence AI embedding locally and nationally.
The network is led by Dom Cushnan, Deputy Director for AI, Joint Policy Unit, NHS England and DHSC and supported by NHS Horizons.
This workspace is dedicated to bringing people in the NHS together to accelerate the development and deployment of safe, ethical AI in health and care.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to make a significant difference in health and care settings. We’re already seeing numerous applications of AI technology, and more work is underway to fully harness its benefits and use AI safely and ethically at scale. AI as a specialised technology differs in many ways to other medtech technologies. Addressing these AI considerations will be the focus of the AI team.
Our mission is to embed responsible, ethical and sustainable AI into NHS services to improve patient care, optimise resources, and empower NHS staff.
Get involved by and share your knowledge, experiences, ideas and concerns with other likeminded individuals in the AI community.
In 2023, the NHS Digital Academy published an Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability framework. Its aim was to help healthcare workers identify gaps in their current knowledge. They have now curated some learning resources, mapped to that capability framework, so that whatever your level of knowledge of AI, you can now quickly find educational assets and training to support you in your role.
All resources are free to access and have been approved by a panel of AI in healthcare experts. The education is mapped directly to the framework which recommends NHS staff obtain a good level of awareness in the following 5 areas:
Bringing together a collection of AI in Healthcare resource, ranging from recordings to in-depth written pieces, into one central space on the NHS England Learning Hub. Whether you're just exploring the topic or deeply involved in the field, this hub from the Virtual and Hybrid Learning Faculty (VHLF) will be your go-to destination for learning, sharing, and staying up to date.
Many of us know what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is, but may not know about the concepts behind the terminology which is becoming more frequently heard in conversations around the types of AI which are commonly deployed.
A basic understanding of the principles on how each technology works can be crucial in deciding which technology you wish to utilise and the considerations and safeguards you need to put in place.
These guides are part of a developing series (of which there will be more) which introduce:
Each guide has a general or basic version and one aimed at clinicians or specifically focussed on clinical settings. They currently include:

Explore how AI is reshaping education and reflect on how you could respond critically or reimagine educational practices.
This online course, designed by King’s College London, invites you to explore the opportunities, challenges, and ethical questions AI brings to education. You will navigate and understand the complex impacts of AI on education, discover the wider landscape of AI in education, understand the foundations of AI in education and debate the dilemmas and risks in AI.
Try for free for 3 weeks. (Note King's College London staff and students can access this course for free without restriction).
Hearing lots about GenAI, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot? Not sure what they are or how they might be of help to you? King’s College Hospital (PRUH and Denmark Hill) staff are welcome to join us for an introductory session exploring generative AI.
What we will cover:
This workshop is a gentle introduction to GenAI and does not cover the use of other kinds of AI in a clinical setting.
